Final Day 9 | Flight Home

Finally got to share my favorite place in the US with Marie! Of course that’s San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area.  No matter how long I’m away from the city, every time I go back I just feel like it’s truly where I belong and I’m always try to work my way back there.  It really is a special place for me which is why I wanted to go with Marie even more so.  Even with 9 days for eating and sightseeing there’s just always so much to see and do that I always want more time there.

Even though I’ve been to the many times before, I always got around by bicycle or in a car with a friend so I still had some research to do for this trip, especially for catching public transportation within the city.  For our hotel, we stayed in the Travelodge by Wyndham on Lombard by Van Ness.  The location was pretty good even though it wasn’t directly on the waterfront because access to public transportation was easy and we could still walk to many of the places on our list.  We also didn’t really want to spend $400/night on a room we’d only be sleeping in so there’s that for consideration too.  We did a TON of walking but we also took advantage of the BART, buses, trolleys, and ferries whenever possible.  The only time we rented a car was for the one day we drove to Napa.  For our activities, we basically combined our own lists of places we wanted to see and eat, then I grouped them into separate days based on the areas they were in.  In the end, we had a pretty full 9 days and every bit of it was great (except for the one sick day).  Anyway, here goes…

Day 1 - Arrive SF

If this were on any other airline, I would not have eaten it lol
It was tough trying to choose just one burrito place to go to
Just can't get this in Japan...

Day 2 - Sausalito

I made the shuttle reservations on line... this is a very critical step if you want to visit the park
Never got to explore this side of the bay much during college
Have to make sure you don't miss the last bus back... we were one of the first in line but it didn't take long for the line to get long. Can't always fit everyone on the bus.

Day 3 - SF Downtown

The perfect breakfast
Trolley time! The good thing about going in this direction into downtown was that there was no line early in the morning
There is quite the line heading back towards the marina so I think we played it right
I always go in to compare but they never live up to the real ones in Japan
Just a quick walk through Chinatown
I've never heard of Blue Bottle coffee before this trip but apparently it's popular in Tokyo now and there's always a line
It's no Inn&Out but it was definitely good... trying some new places this trip

Day 4 - SF West

Couldn't finish all the food
This would've made a nice patch
First time coming out here for me too
hehe "fake" Japanese things

Day 5 - Napa

The one day we rented a car
Traffic was just horrible going into the city
Our fancy day hehe
It's always amazing what the right pairing can do to wine
I always remember enjoying the meal at the other CIA so we thought we'd give this new location a try and it didn't disappoint
Stopped at the lookout but we didn't stay long on account it was pretty cold hehe
Since we had the car and I've never been, we stopped at Twin Peaks before returning it for the night

Day 6 - SF Waterfront

One of my favorite places to just come and sit
A LOT of walking already on this trip
Made it across!
I always think how that could've been me down there
This was a fun little event we just happened across... we even got some free pins for doing a survey about our National Parks visit
haha, San Francisco hills
To get in the mood for the trip, one of the movies we watched was Mrs. Doubtfire so naturally we walked past the real house lol
More food hard to find in Japan

Day 7 - CMA & East Bay

The concept of working in the city, popping into a your regular coffee shop, then walking straight into your office or doing work from here... so foreign to me... seems nice to not have to go through all the restrictions of my job. I tend to call these the normal people (in a good way)lol
Meeting up with one of my best friends, Sam today
Like a brand new campus from when I left
Every school I attend gets turf fields AFTER I graduate.... meh... lol
Showing us all the new happenings on campus since I left. Also got to meet up with some other people from school and caught up quite a bit! Nice little visit back at campus after all.
All new facilities, so fancy
Sam drove us to Berkeley after for lunch and to walk around a bit
Thanks for driving us around all day Sam!
It's not an easy pose lol
haha, "This is America".....

Day 8 - Sick Day

Final Day 9 - Homeward Bound

Not the most inviting elevator... compare this to Japan's stations
Perfect views flying over the city
