Macau Day 3 and Final

Day 3

The last full day in Macau was spent mostly on the southern island, if you will, in Cotai and Taipa.  The major hotels here being the Venetian and Galaxy Macau.

Caught the bus (the correct one in the right direction this time) and got off near the Venetian hotel
It is gigantic
And the hotel by itself has much of the same feel as the one in Vegas
They really design the hotel so that you get lost in it.... quite frustrating really when you actually want to leave
Lord Stow's at the Venetian, egg tart and curry pastry.... ate a lot of egg tarts in three days haha
Look familiar? It seems like the goal is to make the main street here similar to the strip in Vegas (more so than the downtown area of Macau) however as mentioned earlier... there's a lot of work to do
Much construction still taking place. Walking down the street to the golf club
Made it to the Orient Golf Macau Club... apparently it's private? Nobody was really playing that day. Was sweating a good amount just from the short walk so stopped in for a beer. This is the driving range.
Nice view, totally empty. Pro shop was lacking as well...
Inside the fancy locker room...
Next to the golf course is the go-kart track that Anthony Bourdain went to... this was a disappointment.
It was totally empty, and I thought it was closed for the day so I just asked the security guard if I could go in just to take pictures. Apparently, the place was actually open for business... just that nobody goes there anymore. Also, taxi's were "blacklisted" from the area for some reason... probably bad. This meant I had to walk back to the hotels again...
Looking down the "strip"
The mall attached to the Sheraton Grand Hotel
Looking at the Galaxy Macau while crossing the overpass
Praia de Nossa Senhora da Esperanca... fancy name eh?
Taipa Houses Museum.... basically just some old houses on display
Our Lady of Carmel Church... oooo look, a wedding
I enjoyed walking through these streets/sidewalks/alleys... different atmosphere, different feeling
Walking through Taipa Village
Many food places... more local but still a bit of a tourist destination spot. So, for "tourists who want to experience local" category perhaps
R. do Regedor
Walked back over to the Galaxy Macau just to check it out
Ate another porkchop bun
Main lobby
Was feeling lazy so I caught a taxi (something I try to avoid doing usually) back to Largo do Senado. Heard tales of this one shop that had good reviews for food... particularly the durian ice cream and black garlic chocolate
I've tried durian a few times in my life up to this point... never did like it, in any form... but how bad could ice cream be right? uughhh..... same flavor... in a cold creamy form.... the havoc this durian would wreak on my insides would last all night, despite my best efforts to overpower it. To be fair, it tasted like a good quality ice cream, just not the flavor hehe
I saw kim chee fried rice on the menu... and for some reason that sounded really good (and it was). I haven't had it in a while since Hawaii and I thought it would get rid of the durian taste in my mouth.... which it didn't. Oh, the black garlic chocolate didn't taste like anything special to me. All this garlic and I was still burping up durian later that night.
When dark came around I thought it'd be a good time to view the city from Macau Tower observatory... sort of a nice finish to the trip
Looking down at the base
The main view, looking back at the downtown area. I was expecting and waiting for some kind of water show but it didn't happen for some reason...
Looking south towards Taipa
Many bridges
There are some "extreme" type events you can do from the tower, such as climbing to the very top or bungee jumping off
Last night at the hotel. The only night I played for some money.... spent about $20US worth just to use up the rest of my pataca... this is how I found out about using Hong Kong Dollars instead of pataca. Not that big on casinos or gambling now.

Final Day

Final departure day! Caught the hotel shuttle back to the ferry terminal and caught the Turbojet back to Hong Kong
Leaving Macau
Approaching Hong Kong
Last look at Hong Kong
From Hong Kong Ferry terminal I caught the airport express train back to the airport
Had a last meal at Tsui Wah again since there weren't many options at the airport that didn't have a line
I was really eager to get back home, which struck me as a little odd this time calling Japan home.
I feel like I was mentally tired from this trip, juggling two locations, four different currencies, hearing four different languages, much of the trip unplanned, and coming "home" to a place where I still can't speak the language well...

Woohoo, well that’s that for Hong Kong and Macau.  Next up will be my Osaka/Nara/Kobe trip.
